Why weight loss, habits, and consistency finally stick when you change who you’re becoming
If “trying harder” worked, you’d already be done.
You’d be at your goal weight, glowing, consistent, and effortlessly doing the habits you keep promising yourself you’ll start “for real” next week.
But most of us have lived the same frustrating cycle:
We get inspired. We set a big goal. We go all in. Then real life shows up. Stress, exhaustion, hormones, time, emotions, family, work, and that familiar voice that whispers, “See? You always fall off.”
This is exactly why I’m shifting the conversation this year from motivation to identity.
Because motivation is unreliable.
Willpower is limited.
And “trying” is not a strategy.
Becoming is.
This post is about the identity shift that helps habits stick, especially for midlife women who are done playing games with their own goals. If you want sustainable weight loss, better routines, and real consistency, you don’t need a new personality. You need a new identity story and a few small daily actions that prove it’s true.
Trying vs. Becoming: The Difference That Changes Everything
Trying is borrowing behaviors without believing they’re you.
Trying sounds like this:
Trying usually comes with pressure, perfectionism, and a silent fear that you won’t follow through. And when you’re stressed or tired, trying collapses because it was never rooted in belief. It was rooted in effort.
Becoming is deciding who you are now and letting habits prove it.
Becoming sounds like this:
When you choose becoming, you stop doing habits to “be good.” You start doing habits because they match who you are. And your brain loves consistency more than it loves comfort. It will protect your identity even when it’s hurting you. That’s why this shift is so powerful.
Podcast-worthy line: Trying is effort without belief. Becoming is belief with proof.
Identity Is Your Self-Story (and Your Brain Will Prove It True)
Identity isn’t complicated. It’s the story you repeat about who you are.
Self-stories sound like:
Here’s the part most people miss:
Your brain will work hard to prove your self-story true. Not because it’s accurate, but because it’s familiar. Familiar feels safe. Even when familiar is keeping you stuck.
So if you’ve been saying, “I always quit,” your brain will look for evidence that you quit.
If you’ve been saying, “I can’t be consistent,” your brain will treat inconsistency like your home base.
How to spot your self-story in real time
Listen for identity language like:
Catching that language matters because it usually comes right before a decision. A snack decision. A scrolling decision. A skipping-the-walk decision. A “forget it, I’ll start Monday” decision.
How to upgrade the story (without fake affirmations)
This is not about lying to yourself. It’s about choosing a believable upgrade you can grow into.
Try these:
Key line: You don’t rise to your goals. You act in alignment with your identity.
Identity-Based Goals vs. Outcome Goals: Why Standards Beat Motivation
Most people set outcome goals:
Outcome goals aren’t bad. They’re just incomplete.
Because when life gets hard, an outcome goal feels far away and discouraging. The scale is slow. Progress isn’t linear. And the brain starts negotiating.
An identity-based goal is different:
Identity-based goals focus on standards, not moods.
Motivation fades.
Standards stay.
And when you’re having a hard day, you stop asking, “Do I feel like it?” and start asking, “What would the woman I’m becoming do next?”
Mic-drop line: Weight loss is the side effect. Keeping promises is the skill.
Micro-Identity Habits: Tiny Daily Actions That “Cast Votes” for the New You
This is where the real magic happens.
Every tiny habit you do is like dropping a ballot in a box that says:
One big day doesn’t change you.
Repetition does.
Examples of “votes” for a health identity
Examples of “votes” for a consistency identity
Rule: A micro-habit should be so easy you can do it on your worst day.
Podcast line: Every tiny habit is a vote for the woman you’re becoming.
Consistency Over Intensity: The Midlife Secret to Sustainable Weight Loss
Intense plans look impressive on paper. But they collapse under real life.
Intensity is:
Consistency is:
Midlife bodies thrive on routines that support hormones, energy, sleep, and stress. That means your plan needs to be moderate and repeatable, not dramatic and punishing.
Identity-builder: The plan you can repeat on your worst week.
The Messy Middle: When the New Identity Feels Fake
There’s a stage of change no one warns you about: the messy middle.
You’ve started showing up differently, but you don’t feel like “her” yet.
The new identity feels awkward. The old habits feel comfortable.
Your brain will whisper:
That doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It means you’re learning.
Mantra: Unfamiliar doesn’t mean impossible.
Identity-Safe Planning: Gold / Silver / Bronze Days
If your plan requires perfection, it’s not a plan. It’s a trap.
Identity-safe planning protects your confidence by building in options for real life.
Try this:
Bronze days still count. That’s how consistency survives.
Because the goal isn’t “never struggle.”
The goal is “never quit.”
Future-Self Rules: Standards That Remove Decision Fatigue
Your future self isn’t more motivated.
She just has standards.
Rules remove debate. When you’re tired, you don’t want to “decide” your way to discipline. You want a default.
Examples:
Write this down and keep it visible:
Future me doesn’t negotiate with this.
The 7-Day Identity Shift Challenge (Start Today)
If you want to put this into action immediately, do this for the next 7 days:
The rules
Choose your identity statement
Pick one:
Choose your daily vote habit (tiny + repeatable)
Say this before you do it:
“I’m the kind of woman who ______, so today I’m doing ______.”
That’s how you connect the habit to identity.
Final Reminder: Becoming Is Built One Vote at a Time
You don’t have to become a completely new person overnight.
You just have to stop abandoning yourself every time life gets hard.
Small promises.
Small follow-through.
Small daily votes.
That’s how you build the identity that makes weight loss and consistency stick.
Want support with this?
If this concept hit you, save it, share it, and come back to it on the days you want to quit. And if you want accountability, structure, and a simple plan you can actually follow, this is exactly what I coach.
Your next step: Choose your identity statement and start Day 1 today

THINGS I AM LOVING LATELY
I want to share a few things I have been doing in my own life lately that are honestly making me feel so much better. Healthier. Calmer. More organized. More glowy. Just more like me.
Because I really do believe that a glow-up is built through tiny daily habits. Tiny shifts. Tiny rituals that slowly change how you feel.
THING ONE: My 10-Minute Morning Stretch Ritual
Nothing extreme. Nothing complicated. I just spend about ten minutes stretching in the morning before I do anything else.
And it has helped so much with morning stiffness, with my energy, with my posture, and honestly even with my mood. Women over 40 really need mobility work. Our bodies want movement and circulation and care, especially first thing in the morning.
THING TWO: A Capsule Pantry System
Okay this one sounds more boring than it is. But it has honestly changed the way I eat and the way I feel during the week.
Basically I keep a set of healthy staple foods stocked at all times. Brown rice. Quinoa. Whole grain or protein pasta. Beans. Sugar-free marinara sauce. Tuna packets. Canned salmon. Oatmeal. Greek yogurt. Frozen vegetables. Berries. Nuts. Sparkling water.
THING THREE: Organizing My Fridge by Zones
Okay I know this sounds random. But hear me out, because this has helped me so much.
I set up little sections in my fridge. One area for proteins. One for fruits and vegetables. One for grab-and-go snacks. One for drinks. One for meal prep containers.
Now I actually see the healthy food I bought instead of forgetting about it in the back until it expires. Cooking during the week feels calmer. Meal prep is easier.
THING FOUR: A Cuticle Oil Habit
Okay last one, and it is the smallest one. But I love it so much.
I keep cuticle oil and hand lotion sitting right on my desk at work. And during the day, during a little break, I apply both. That is it. That is the whole habit.
But it makes me feel polished and cared for throughout the day. It is a tiny little signal I send to myself that says — you matter. You deserve to feel nice today.
Set a Big Goal — Then Break It All the Way Down
I have a big goal. I know exactly where I am going. And I have written it down.
Make it a great day, friends!
Love, Jax

Growth Mindse
How to change your beliefs in life to live more consciously with your chosen purpose and goals with a growth, mindset and a sense happiness.
1. Develop keen and accurate self-awareness.
2. Develop an accurate self-concept.
3. Be truthful to yourself and tell others the truth.
4. Make the connection between current choices and future results.
5. Behave in ways that are for your best interest.
6. Become self protective and self-determined.
Remember any new habit is difficult until we practice it which then it becomes easy. When you shift your mindset and belief system, you will end up creating new habits. You may experience a decrease in comfort level and a sense of security. There may be an experience in increased in anxiety. You will make mistakes and other people may react negatively to your shift in beliefs.
Once you change your beliefs and develop a growth mindset, you will be more self-responsible, more honest with more integrity, more self caring with more set boundaries. You will be able to identify your core values and personal desires. You will make more conscious choices. You will reprogram your subconscious mind. And then you will live a life of joy and happiness and self fulfillment.
I have applied this to my own life and I`ve learned this through getting a life, coaching certification and reading numerous books and assisting women over 40 who are looking to upgrade glow up and improve their lives by becoming one percent better every day.
Make it a great day, friends!

Get an Accountability Partner — and Actually Time-Block Your Check-Ins if you are on a weight loss journey.
I have an accountability partner, actually two accountability partners. And we do not just casually text here and there and hope for the best. We actually time-block our check-ins. We schedule them. We put them in our calendars like real appointments. We connect at least once a week — sometimes in person, sometimes a phone call, sometimes a message — but it is consistent and it is planned.
Your accountability partner should be someone who is genuinely supportive but also honest with you. Someone who celebrates your wins AND holds space when things are hard without just telling you what you want to hear.
Schedule it. Protect it. Show up for it every week.
