Winter can be a depressing time, with less light, cold weather, and lack of contact with the outside world, this can make individuals feel tired and sluggish. For middle-aged women who are experiencing changes and accepting change, the winter season can sometimes bring out the worst in them. However, this is the best part; there are ways to enhance our mood and make the most of the winter season.
In this post, I’ll share some strategies that can help combat the winter blues, backed up by scientific evidence and love for all the midlife warriors out there.
1. Less Sunlight, More Fatigue: In winter, there is limited sun exposure, which can lead to low serotonin production in the blood. Melatonin production increases, which makes one feel more weary.
2. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): To some, the winter blues can progress to Seasonal Affective Disorder, which is a type of depression that is related to season changes.
3. Lifestyle Shifts: It also gets colder, which means that people tend to stay indoors. This minimizes physical activities and social interactions, which are very important for happiness and health.
It does not have to be like that every year. Identifying these factors makes it possible to take some measures to look after oneself and remain energetic during the cold months.
1. Get Outside Daily: Sunlight is very important for our well-being. Ensure you spend at least 15 minutes outside daily, especially in the morning, to set your circadian rhythm and increase serotonin. Staying warm and walking or just standing somewhere with nature is essential.
2. Create a Cozy Winter Routine: Create a comfortable winter by creating cozy routines. Some tips include lighting candles, using soft textures like blankets, and only keeping things around you that make you happy.
3. Stay Active: Exercise increases the level of endorphins that make people happy and feel alive. You can try a yoga class, weight training, or a dance lesson, but the best of all is to exercise every day.
4. Supplement Wisely: Vitamin D deficiency is common during the winter season. You should ask your doctor, and if it is okay, then take a high-quality Vitamin D supplement to enhance your mood and immune system.
5. Prioritize Social Connection: Do not let the cold prevent you from being sociable. Set up monthly or weekly meetings with friends, have a friend over for a game night, or join a chat group. It is crucial to feel connected with other people.
6. Practice Gratitude and Mindfulness: Writing down the things you are grateful for each day can change your perspective. This, together with other practices like meditation or deep breathing, can really help you stay in the present moment.
7. Brighten Your Environment: Change the colors of your home or clothes to more lively and encouraging ones. Flowers, scarves, and a colorful blanket can all improve your mood significantly.
8. Engage in a Passion Project: It is a perfect time to indulge in the activity you love doing or are interested in, whether writing, drawing, or cooking. They say the best way to prevent boredom is to keep the mind busy, which also gives a feeling of accomplishment.
Light is known to affect the mood, so get yourself a light therapy box that provides simulated sunlight and has been known to help people with SAD. You can use it while working or as an energy source when you wake up.
Feed the Body, Nourish the Spirit Food can help boost energy and improve mood due to nutrients in our food. You should include whole grains, lean meats, omega-3 fatty acids-rich fish, and vegetables in your diet. Soups, teas, and stews can also help boost moods due to their calming effects.
The Strength of Midlife Resilience Winter is a time to stay inside, to think, and to take care of oneself. As midlife women, we have been through many winters, and this one is no exception. With an eye on things and lots of self-care, we can remain sunny even when the days are at their darkest.
I hope this blog post finds you well. I also hope these tips will help you during this long winter.

THINGS I AM LOVING LATELY
I want to share a few things I have been doing in my own life lately that are honestly making me feel so much better. Healthier. Calmer. More organized. More glowy. Just more like me.
Because I really do believe that a glow-up is built through tiny daily habits. Tiny shifts. Tiny rituals that slowly change how you feel.
THING ONE: My 10-Minute Morning Stretch Ritual
Nothing extreme. Nothing complicated. I just spend about ten minutes stretching in the morning before I do anything else.
And it has helped so much with morning stiffness, with my energy, with my posture, and honestly even with my mood. Women over 40 really need mobility work. Our bodies want movement and circulation and care, especially first thing in the morning.
THING TWO: A Capsule Pantry System
Okay this one sounds more boring than it is. But it has honestly changed the way I eat and the way I feel during the week.
Basically I keep a set of healthy staple foods stocked at all times. Brown rice. Quinoa. Whole grain or protein pasta. Beans. Sugar-free marinara sauce. Tuna packets. Canned salmon. Oatmeal. Greek yogurt. Frozen vegetables. Berries. Nuts. Sparkling water.
THING THREE: Organizing My Fridge by Zones
Okay I know this sounds random. But hear me out, because this has helped me so much.
I set up little sections in my fridge. One area for proteins. One for fruits and vegetables. One for grab-and-go snacks. One for drinks. One for meal prep containers.
Now I actually see the healthy food I bought instead of forgetting about it in the back until it expires. Cooking during the week feels calmer. Meal prep is easier.
THING FOUR: A Cuticle Oil Habit
Okay last one, and it is the smallest one. But I love it so much.
I keep cuticle oil and hand lotion sitting right on my desk at work. And during the day, during a little break, I apply both. That is it. That is the whole habit.
But it makes me feel polished and cared for throughout the day. It is a tiny little signal I send to myself that says — you matter. You deserve to feel nice today.
Set a Big Goal — Then Break It All the Way Down
I have a big goal. I know exactly where I am going. And I have written it down.
Make it a great day, friends!

Growth Mindse
How to change your beliefs in life to live more consciously with your chosen purpose and goals with a growth, mindset and a sense happiness.
1. Develop keen and accurate self-awareness.
2. Develop an accurate self-concept.
3. Be truthful to yourself and tell others the truth.
4. Make the connection between current choices and future results.
5. Behave in ways that are for your best interest.
6. Become self protective and self-determined.
Remember any new habit is difficult until we practice it which then it becomes easy. When you shift your mindset and belief system, you will end up creating new habits. You may experience a decrease in comfort level and a sense of security. There may be an experience in increased in anxiety. You will make mistakes and other people may react negatively to your shift in beliefs.
Once you change your beliefs and develop a growth mindset, you will be more self-responsible, more honest with more integrity, more self caring with more set boundaries. You will be able to identify your core values and personal desires. You will make more conscious choices. You will reprogram your subconscious mind. And then you will live a life of joy and happiness and self fulfillment.
I have applied this to my own life and I`ve learned this through getting a life, coaching certification and reading numerous books and assisting women over 40 who are looking to upgrade glow up and improve their lives by becoming one percent better every day.
Make it a great day, friends!
Love, Jax

Get an Accountability Partner — and Actually Time-Block Your Check-Ins if you are on a weight loss journey.
I have an accountability partner, actually two accountability partners. And we do not just casually text here and there and hope for the best. We actually time-block our check-ins. We schedule them. We put them in our calendars like real appointments. We connect at least once a week — sometimes in person, sometimes a phone call, sometimes a message — but it is consistent and it is planned.
Your accountability partner should be someone who is genuinely supportive but also honest with you. Someone who celebrates your wins AND holds space when things are hard without just telling you what you want to hear.
Schedule it. Protect it. Show up for it every week.
