If you have spent your 30s, or honestly your whole adult life, putting yourself at the very bottom of every list, please do not spend one more second feeling bad about that. Women are literally taught to take care of everyone else first. That is not a character flaw. That is just what we were shown growing up.
But here is the truth: at some point, the bill comes due. And for a lot of women, that moment shows up in their 40s. Your energy shifts. Your sleep gets weird. Your body starts sending signals you cannot ignore anymore.
I know that sounds wild. But stay with me. Because I am about to share 10 reasons why your 40s are not a deadline, they are the best starting line you have ever had.
This one comes straight from the American Heart Association, and I want you to really hear it.
Midlife is a real, actual window of opportunity for your cardiovascular health. The choices you make right now, how you move, what you eat, how you sleep, how you handle stress, those choices have a massive impact on your heart for the next several decades.
Your heart is still SO ready to respond to the good things you do for it. You do not need to run marathons. You do not need to go on some extreme diet. You just need to start moving in a better direction. Even small steps matter. Even twenty minute walks matter. Even drinking more water matters.
Start there. Your heart will thank you for decades.
Most women have no idea about this, so pay attention.
Our bones are actually at their strongest around age 30. After that, we slowly start losing bone density. And when perimenopause kicks in, which can actually begin in your early 40s, that loss can speed up.
But here is the part I really want you to hold onto: your 40s are still very much within the window where your choices make a real difference. Strength training, getting enough calcium and vitamin D, staying active, these things genuinely protect your bones.
The women walking around confident and strong in their 70s? A lot of them built that foundation in their 40s. That can absolutely be us.
This one does not get talked about enough, and it should be on every woman’s radar.
After 40, women can start losing one to two percent of their muscle mass every single year. Every year. And muscle is not just about how your arms look in a photo, although honestly, that is a nice bonus too.
Muscle is a metabolic powerhouse. It helps regulate your blood sugar. It keeps your energy up. It helps balance your hormones. It protects your joints and bones. And it is what keeps you strong and able to do the things you love as you get older.
The women who feel energetic and vibrant in their 60s and 70s? They made muscle a priority in their 40s. You still have time. Let’s use it.
Brain doctors, neurologists, actually say your 40s are the ideal time to start taking brain health seriously. And I want you to hear that in an empowering way, not a scary one.
As your hormones shift, you might notice brain fog, a little more forgetfulness, or feeling a little slower than usual. This is so, so common. And here is the beautiful part: exercise, quality sleep, and even staying socially connected can actually slow those changes down.
There is also research showing that women with more muscle mass have a lower risk of cognitive decline later in life. So every time you work out, you are protecting your brain too.
Brain gains AND body gains? Yes please.
Raise your hand if you have ever felt like you are doing all the same things you always did, but your body is just not cooperating the way it used to.
Same. And so do almost every woman I talk to.
Here is what I want you to know: this is not in your head. Your metabolism genuinely changes in your 40s because your hormones are shifting, your muscle is slowly changing, and your cells are doing different things than they did at 28.
But knowledge is power. Once you understand what is actually happening inside your body, you stop feeling like something is broken and you start making choices that actually make sense for where you are right now. That shift in understanding is a total game changer.
Okay, this one makes me both frustrated and hopeful at the same time.
For most of medical history, the majority of research was done on men. And then those results were just applied to women. Like our bodies work exactly the same way. They absolutely do not.
And finally — FINALLY — that is starting to change. In 2025, the National Academy of Medicine released a major report calling for more research specifically focused on women in midlife. More funding. More studies. More tools designed for what we actually experience.
Your 40s are the perfect time to start asking better questions at your doctor’s appointments and advocating for yourself like never before. You deserve real answers. Go get them.
Perimenopause can start in your early 40s. And it speaks in whispers before it starts shouting. Trouble sleeping. Mood swings that catch you off guard. Low energy. Cycles that feel different. Brain fog that comes out of nowhere.
So many women just push through these things and pretend they are fine. But what if instead of white-knuckling through it, you got curious about it?
Your body is not failing you. It is communicating with you. And the women who listen early, who lean in and figure out what their body is asking for, those are the women who make real, lasting changes before small things become bigger problems.
Listen to her. She is trying to help you.
I want to be really clear about this, because I know some of you have a little voice in your head that says it is too late. Or that you have missed your window. Or that ship has sailed.
It has NOT sailed. You have NOT missed it.
Your body in your 40s is still completely capable of responding to good habits. Exercise still builds muscle. Nourishing food still fuels you better. Quality sleep still restores your whole system. Stress management still helps regulate your hormones. All of it still works.
You are not starting over. You are starting SMARTER, with more self-knowledge and more wisdom than you ever had in your 20s. That is actually a massive advantage.
I know your life right now. You are probably managing a lot. Kids. Aging parents. Career. Relationship. Household. Friendships. You are holding so much at once and somehow calling it fine.
But here is what I really want you to hear: you cannot pour from an empty cup. It is a cliche because it is true.
When you are healthy, when you actually have energy, mental clarity, and strength, every single person in your life benefits. Your kids get a more present mom. Your partner gets a more engaged partner. Your friends get more of the real you.
Taking care of yourself is not selfish. It is one of the most loving things you can do for everyone you care about. Put yourself on the list. Near the top.
There is a word that health experts use to describe midlife. They call it an inflection point. Not a decline. Not a crisis. An inflection point, a moment where the direction of things can genuinely change.
And I think that is exactly right. Something happens in your 40s where you get clearer. Clearer about who you are. Clearer about what you actually want. Clearer about what you are absolutely done tolerating.
That clarity is powerful. When you pair it with a real decision to take care of your health, something clicks. You stop making choices out of guilt or fear. You start making them out of love and respect for yourself.
You stop just surviving and start actually thriving.
You do not need to overhaul your entire life this week. Pick one thing. Just one.
Drink more water today. Take a twenty-minute walk. Book that appointment you have been putting off. Add more protein to your next meal. Go to bed a little earlier tonight.
Small steps, done over and over again, are what actually change lives. And you are completely capable of this.
I am cheering for you every single step of the way.
Pin this post. Share it with a friend in her 40s who needs to hear it. And come find me on Instagram, I want to hear what your one step is going to be.

THINGS I AM LOVING LATELY
I want to share a few things I have been doing in my own life lately that are honestly making me feel so much better. Healthier. Calmer. More organized. More glowy. Just more like me.
Because I really do believe that a glow-up is built through tiny daily habits. Tiny shifts. Tiny rituals that slowly change how you feel.
THING ONE: My 10-Minute Morning Stretch Ritual
Nothing extreme. Nothing complicated. I just spend about ten minutes stretching in the morning before I do anything else.
And it has helped so much with morning stiffness, with my energy, with my posture, and honestly even with my mood. Women over 40 really need mobility work. Our bodies want movement and circulation and care, especially first thing in the morning.
THING TWO: A Capsule Pantry System
Okay this one sounds more boring than it is. But it has honestly changed the way I eat and the way I feel during the week.
Basically I keep a set of healthy staple foods stocked at all times. Brown rice. Quinoa. Whole grain or protein pasta. Beans. Sugar-free marinara sauce. Tuna packets. Canned salmon. Oatmeal. Greek yogurt. Frozen vegetables. Berries. Nuts. Sparkling water.
THING THREE: Organizing My Fridge by Zones
Okay I know this sounds random. But hear me out, because this has helped me so much.
I set up little sections in my fridge. One area for proteins. One for fruits and vegetables. One for grab-and-go snacks. One for drinks. One for meal prep containers.
Now I actually see the healthy food I bought instead of forgetting about it in the back until it expires. Cooking during the week feels calmer. Meal prep is easier.
THING FOUR: A Cuticle Oil Habit
Okay last one, and it is the smallest one. But I love it so much.
I keep cuticle oil and hand lotion sitting right on my desk at work. And during the day, during a little break, I apply both. That is it. That is the whole habit.
But it makes me feel polished and cared for throughout the day. It is a tiny little signal I send to myself that says — you matter. You deserve to feel nice today.
Set a Big Goal — Then Break It All the Way Down
I have a big goal. I know exactly where I am going. And I have written it down.
Make it a great day, friends!
Love, Jax

Growth Mindse
How to change your beliefs in life to live more consciously with your chosen purpose and goals with a growth, mindset and a sense happiness.
1. Develop keen and accurate self-awareness.
2. Develop an accurate self-concept.
3. Be truthful to yourself and tell others the truth.
4. Make the connection between current choices and future results.
5. Behave in ways that are for your best interest.
6. Become self protective and self-determined.
Remember any new habit is difficult until we practice it which then it becomes easy. When you shift your mindset and belief system, you will end up creating new habits. You may experience a decrease in comfort level and a sense of security. There may be an experience in increased in anxiety. You will make mistakes and other people may react negatively to your shift in beliefs.
Once you change your beliefs and develop a growth mindset, you will be more self-responsible, more honest with more integrity, more self caring with more set boundaries. You will be able to identify your core values and personal desires. You will make more conscious choices. You will reprogram your subconscious mind. And then you will live a life of joy and happiness and self fulfillment.
I have applied this to my own life and I`ve learned this through getting a life, coaching certification and reading numerous books and assisting women over 40 who are looking to upgrade glow up and improve their lives by becoming one percent better every day.
Make it a great day, friends!
Love, Jax

Get an Accountability Partner — and Actually Time-Block Your Check-Ins if you are on a weight loss journey.
I have an accountability partner, actually two accountability partners. And we do not just casually text here and there and hope for the best. We actually time-block our check-ins. We schedule them. We put them in our calendars like real appointments. We connect at least once a week — sometimes in person, sometimes a phone call, sometimes a message — but it is consistent and it is planned.
Your accountability partner should be someone who is genuinely supportive but also honest with you. Someone who celebrates your wins AND holds space when things are hard without just telling you what you want to hear.
Schedule it. Protect it. Show up for it every week.
